🌙 Night Field Discovery 🌙
During our outing with the night squad, we came across a fascinating slime mold: Stemonitis. Ben happened to touch it by accident — and it turned out to be far more stable than expected.
Stemonitis has a remarkable life cycle. It begins white, shifts to pink, and finally turns brown as it matures. These slime molds are most often found on decaying wood in moist, shaded forest habitats, where they play an important role in breaking down organic matter and recycling nutrients back into the ecosystem.
Observing its transformation in the field was a real highlight of the night. Nature never fails to surprise. 🍄✨
